Shimeji seeing Majime having recreated their classroom broke me. I think the happy ending is deserved and I'm so happy for both of them. I hope we get an anime, if it's anything like the Girls' Last Tour anime, it'd be amazing. Shimeji Sim is even more ambitious and diverse but no less personal.
What were some of your favorite themes?
What an incredible ride that was. I really adored it, start to finish.
I think some of my favorite themes from the work were actually closer to the end than anything in the beginning or middle arcs. The exploration of the self, in particular. Shimeji's meeting with the Tall Woman in Chapter 48, and her reuniting with Yomikawa in Chapter 44 - both of those chapters gave me a lot to think about, and I found myself thinking about them several days after reading them.
Religious analysis is definitely not my strong suit, not by a long shot, but I would really love to hear a take or two by someone smarter than me on the matter. It's really interesting, especially considering that it was present even in the beginning and middle arcs to varying degrees.
I don't want to go too into themes, but this manga gave me some of my favorite moments of all time in media, between the perpetual motion machine drill and Mogawa in the hole contemplating suicide, the transitioning into a novel for a chapter, Shijima discovering she was all alone again after running away, and so so much more. I will always treasure the 3.5 years I've been reading this.
Really enjoyed this story. Loved the aesthetics and themes of the early and middle chapters best, but the story got much more intricate towards the later chapters. I think this is one of those things you have to re-read later to really understand what's going on, but the happy ending was nice.
I also really want to see where Chito and Yuuri are headed to.
