"DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION to Stream on Crunchyroll in New Episodic Format
The anime adaptation of Inio Asano’s manga begins streaming May 23"
time for another anilist page
So its the 2 Movies splitted in Episodes?
seems like it, saw some twitter anime news account mention a bit of extra concent but it wasnt mentioned in the crunchyroll article so no idea if thats true and what it means if it is
The variety article specifies it will be 18 episodes. If they are 24 minutes long thats going to be like 6-8 episodes of new material.
Functionally the 2 movies are just recaps of the tv series that released before the series they are recapping
Sooo, can we get a page for the ONA?
Well we dont really have information confirming that it is in fact different to my knowledge, just publicity articles saying it is. I havent seen anything confirming episode duration or anything else like that.
The official Crunchyroll announcement that's linked in this post has enough information to warrant another entry.
"Crunchyroll is announcing today the anime adaptation of Inio Asano’s manga DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION will start streaming on the platform this week! Releasing in a new episodic format, DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION will premiere on Crunchyroll on May 23 at 8:00 p.m. PT, with new episodes premiering weekly."
So the users of Anilist should not be able to track the progress of the 18 episodes.
God, the worst part about this site is the mods.
The thread "Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction (anime ver) entry?" and its comments have been merged into this thread.
You can view the merged thread's body below:
Episode 0 (of the 18 episodes slated to be released) of Dead Dead Demon's DeDeDeDeDe Destruction dropped on Crunchyroll about an hour ago, after getting announced more or less out of nowhere on Monday. It's an expanded version of the two movies that got released in Japan earlier this year and will be a complete adaptation of the manga when it 's finished. As far as I know, the anime version is only for overseas markets, and the US won't be getting the movies for a while, if ever. Could we get a site page for the show pretty plz?
Where dat new entry at
I really don't get why a page hasn't been added yet. Orbital Children, +h's last anime also had theatrical showings in Japan but became an ONA afterwards. Seasonal anime that don't have specific episode counts aren't added only when we know the episode count officially, the entry just gets updated when we DO know.
A way to track and comment under an ONA with new content is pretty reasonable to me, especially given that Orbital Children is treated as an ONA on this site. Not sure if this is a sensitive topic I hope not I was just looking at other sites and I checked mal -- they have an ONA page up for DDDD as well.
Hope a page gets added sooner rather than later
You can use notes like when an anime gets an early premiere and the streaming worldwide versions are treated as the regular ones, many anime have early releases in events or cr and you've noted that before iirc.
Or in the same way of notes you can make it like the .5 extra chapters in manga. Problem is, that makes sense but makes it hard to keep track off.
What's in the way of adding an ONA version with unknown episode count (since the source for the 18 episodes claim isn't trustworthy enough for mods) for now? In case the series does turn out to not meet the requirements for a recut and ends in 10 or so eps contrary to the Variety article once both movie and ONA version are widely available, it can just be deleted off the site.
Can't reply directly to it but that mod up there saying
Go whine to them [Crunchyrol] about establishing weird practices where they split up movies into episodes
does put the credibility of the people behind this database in question because there's not a single "movie split into episodes" in existence where the episodic version has actually been CR's choice or exclusive thing. Every single thing you can think about, from Digimon Tri to LoGH: Die Neue These, has the episodic version be something that was released outside theaters in Japan itself.
Not knowing this just show a completely lack of knowledge of how anime is released when this is shit you can learn even on Japanese Wikipedia.
A new theme song was created specifically for the ONA,「Shinsekai より」by ano x lilas ikuta. It has not been uploaded officially yet, but you can hear it at the end of the episode. The theme songs for the movies are https://youtu.be/TBm473lA5Bk and https://youtu.be/VFu94eX2bYA respectively.
According to your recut guidelines, this should be enough to warrant a new entry regardless of Crunchyroll not presenting a satisfactory amount of information. The implication of never-before-seen content from a reliable albeit unofficial news source should make creating an entry for this a no-brainer, even if it means omitting the alleged episode count until it's officially confirmed.
Thank you for actually reading the guidelines and putting up an argument that applies to them, this should allow it to be added to the site without validating that there is actually new content otherwise. I'll ask another mod to add it to the site when they have the chance.
Thank you!
It is rather amusing that someone above was trying to lecture us about a lack of knowledge about how things are released while misunderstanding the actual statement being made. Whether there are split episode releases in Japan doesn't change the claim. The point is that CR almost never releases full length movies for streaming. Some things that get released in "theaters" in japan we have treated as serialized works, largely because they almost always are split on the bluray and the blurays are typically sold at the theater or shortly after. However there are movies that CR has split up that if you go to a site like amazon.co.jp to watch, they will have the movie as a full length work without breaks.

Have you ever read the Submission Manual guidelines for recuts? That is the issue the mods had with adding the entry and is consistent with the site policies, until the episodes started releasing it was impossible to confirm that there is new content defined as sufficient enough in the guidelines. Go read it if you care.
Glad you guys had no questions about adding Scott Pilgrim Takes Off to the database while this literal anime takes strong debating whether it's different enough from the movies to warrant it's own listing.
You probably couldnt have chosen a worse comparison if you tried Kamatai
