I am saying it again. Umi doesn't deserve any of this. She need a better and amazing life. In this episode we learned a lot about Umi and great episode for both anime only and VN viewers. Umi's father is Hairi and her dead mother named is Shiroha. She died the second after giving birth to Umi and that's why she never seen her. Don't forget that this route is one of the ending route and we still have one more route.

Everything falls into place now as expected, and it's clear now the last route is the closest to the real or original summer Hairi spent on that island as that one obviously didn't have Umi,
This was a great episode, simply my favorite by far, but I think there's still missing links. And no route have seen Hairi actually helping with his late grandmother's belongings and I guess there's no Miki route too which is disappointing and now I kind of wish the whole anime from the get-go centered around Umi instead.
Miki does have her own route but it's from Summer Pockets: Reflection Blue. This anime don't animate reflection blue as it's second story but also have other girls route too aside from Kamome, Tsumugi, Ao and Shiroha. So unless we get season 2 focusing on reflection blue, the only way to see her route is by playing the reflection blue VN.
which you STILL can't play in english without going through a bunch of annoying hoops
edit: NEVERMIND IT RELEASED IN ENGLISH LIKE 2 WEEKS AGO
edit x2: NEVERMIND APPARENTLY IT'S A CENSORED VERSION OF THE SWITCH PORT AND IS NOT GOOD
what is there to even get censored lol or do you mean all the paths aren't available
Apparently a good chunk of CGs and dialogue were cut and/or censored for who knows what reason
Also the UI was turned to shit because instead of translating the Japanese version of the game they ported over a console version of the game or something stupid
I think they tried to make it appeal to a western audience but rushed it or had no clue what we want and dont want. Thats such a shame they flopped it because i really wanted to play it. Hopefully theyll update it but doesnt seem hopefull if its already been 3 weeks
This episode gave my tear ducts a pretty decent work out. I’m really sad about Umi, her life before the island and then having to repeat the summer over and over again. It’s almost like she’s watching the anime with us but with a lot more emotional stakes than us.
I like how this arc is a blend of the other ones with little nods, like the Pringle cans and the picture book, to the other arcs. I also like that Umi came clean with Hairi about who she was and her relationship with him. I am sad though that Shiroha still has to go through the “I’m cursed” Thing because I just want her to be happy. I’m also hoping that Umi’s presence somehow alters the future and Shiroha doesn’t die early. I’m guessing it was at child birth but they never said that exactly.
i didn't even think about it being difficult on Umi to repeat all those summers, i thought it was just cool, that really does give me a different perceptive but im really glad it's acc explained and spelt out pretty well. The studio (feel) which animated this anime also made My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU which i really enjoyed (rated it a 10, imo one of the best rom com out their) and was easy to digest
So this episode revealed a lot of things. People who said that it felt like an anime from the 2000s then give a pat yourself on the back, glad some people caught on that. Yes, Summer Pockets takes place in the year 2000! The anime doesn't directly confirm the year but the visual novel does.
We also now learned Umi's relation to Shiroha and Hairi. Visual novels readers were kind of annoyed by the fact that the anime made it very obvious with all the foreshadow scenes, but now the truth is finally revealed.
Overall I think this episode was pretty good. Got to see all the other girls in some bits, very wholesome scene between Umi, Shiroha and Hairi. Studio feel. MIGHT nail the Alka route, let's hope.
At this point I think I've accepted this adaptation for what it is mostly. It's beginning to be reminiscent of the AIR anime by Kyoani where the runtime being too short has forced it into not serving well as an adaptation, but since they have the ability to adapt specific scenes well, it kinda turns into a highlight reel of the vn of sorts. Like, it'll never be able to get close to the original game experience, but I can revisit the big scenes in anime form.
This was for sure my favorite episode so far even despite the huge cuts, I absolutely loved the backhalf of this episode, if only they didn't essentially spoil this reveal multiple times already it would have been executed almost perfectly. Getting to hear the truth from Umi herself was almost as much of a gut punch as it was while reading it the first time, I think that scene is the single best thing feel has done for this anime so far. As long as they can adapt the rest of the huge scenes equally as well in this final stretch, I think I can love at least certain parts of this anime
I believe Umi dropped almost everything in this episode (not literally everything, of course), but things are getting interesting. I hope the next episodes will be even more engaging than this one. I especially enjoy it when they play hide and seek, with Shiroha using all the character tropes to bait them, lol.
Also, I love seeing Kamome and Shiroha getting watermelon ice cream together.
