I'm with you with the point raised about the dancing. I don't know if people remember Tribe Cool Crew but it felt very similar because they also had choreographers but their character design was way simpler, so yeah.
Before the episode aired, I was already skeptical because the manga has astonishingly beautiful art and that's always difficult to translate.
However, the characters and their dialogue felt good.
I still want to be hopeful.
I liked everything but the CGI, it's very jarring. But I'm hoping I can look past it and enjoy other aspects of this show.
As everyone here agrees... I also agree. The CGI movements aren't even bad but it's just so absolutely jarringly different from the rest of the animation. Plus the rigid hair and cloth sims make it somehow even worse than what is probably actually is. Anyways.... Besides that...
SCATMAN MENTIONED RHAAAAA!!!!
The only issue is CGI and it is noticable whenever "Dance" sequences came, Though everything was good. Using of CGI might be because of budget issue or workload as this is dancing anime and songs will appear everytime because of that money will get spent on it due to copyrights(if they uses ready to use songs). So, Hoping that whenever the moment came they don't use CGI rather go with the 2D approach.
Hoping Studio Madhouse pull of it beautifully like they do always
I have just read the chapter 1 of manga and the adaptation was great there some anime orignal scene. The entrance Dance of group it was anime orignal(It isn't certainly anime orignal but rather from chapter 4).
I have read in english so compared with that, If only the Dance sequences wasn't CGI it will made up a great episode. The manga art was so great and I literally would like to see it adapted in anime with Dance sequences being 2D. With that said everything was great.
About that scene it was just a glimpse or rather just a small portion of sequence shown in episode 1, so that dance sequence might be shown in upcoming episodes
Episode rating would be :- 87/100
Yeah, how about no... I was genuinely excited for this, but with the main aspect of the show looking this bad, it's simply not worth the watch. They should have kept the dance 2d or outsource it to a studio with good CG.
As far as I can work out the CG was done solely by Cyclone Graphics but I reckon its because its not done in-house at MADHOUSE (I'm not certain how good their inhouse team is now considering Overlord's CG did look pretty terrible a few years back) that it caused this disconnect between the two art departments and made it stand out that much more
The choreography of the CGI is fine, CGI has been implemented in music anime before with no problem...
However, here, the contrast when switching to CGI is jarring. I'm not sure if it's the eyes or the lips, but the models feel weird to me and it kinda takes me out of it. I sense a good character driven story coming... kinda, but as far as the dancing goes, it feels lacking. I feel like it's probably going to be a problem, because, you know, it's a show about dancing? (But it seems like it will balance between this and character drama, but we'll see how it goes)
Scatman John appearance was unexpected but welcomed.
Jesus christ the dancing looked worse than some MMDs I've seen on youtube. What the actual fuck happened there, I literally saw moments where the animation seemed to slip up and lag/stutter, cut to 2D in a freezing/jarring way and then back to 3D again, I can't.
I like the story and dialogue so far but the MAIN ASPECT OF THE SHOW looks like that???
the CGI dancing is jarring. Incredibly lifeless animation that looks like something out of VR chat, the running man Kabo hit with regular 2D animation hit had way more life in it.
That being said I think the show has a promising premise, and not enough is being said about how well the voice acting was, especially from Kouki Uchiyama. I will be sticking with it and just gritting my teeth through the CGI if it continues, because I think aside from that we may have something special here.
It's interesting that they used cgi for the dances. I definitely wasn't expecting it but I don't mind it. Hopefully we get some sick dance scenes with it though.
Also, damn Kaboku is tall ( ˶°ㅁ°) !!
What is this face hahaha. She's so expressive in her reactions I love it
Super creepy man... Secretly taking video of a girl and then boasting about it to your friends isn't really someone I would want to be friends with.
Perfect reaction xD
And he shares it with the group... Real classy.. I don't think he's a bad person but I think it would help if he thinks about the decisions he's making first.
Tell em, king!! I'm glad he's able to break the cycle of his old way of thinking. It's only one step but that first step is the most important one.
Free from the world. Free from overthinking things. Free from the chains of societal norms they're forced to follow to be "normal". That's the reason she dances and that's the reason for him to start dancing.

I've read what's been translated of the source material, so I was looking forward to this anime.
I'll just start with the bad, which is that the dance CG is lacking, to say the least. Considering that Wandance is about dancing, this will ruin the anime.
And it's too bad. I'm happy with everything else about this adaptation. Hina Youmiya was a great casting choice for the role of Hikari Wanda. All of the art/animation besides the CG dance scenes actually looks gorgeous. And holy shit...
THEY ACTUALLY ADAPTED THE PART WHERE KABO TALKS ABOUT THE SCATMAN! I thought they wouldn't bother getting the rights to the song, but they straight-up put the music video in the anime!
If they hadn't fucked up the CG dance scenes, this anime would have the potential to be big, but no... it's just wasted potential, and I'm going to have to spend the rest of the season trying to suspend my disbelief (and suppress my gag reflex) every time an uncanny valley dance scene pops up.
This first episode was really cringe but it was funny enough including the bad dancing and the end of the episode. Kabo had interesting character development and his flaws were clearly defined within the first episode. It also seems Wanda and him will have good chemistry, very cute interactions! Hopefully the romance won't get dragged out and the cgi stands out less in comparison to the great animation.
