I think the scene that best shows how Junko herself knows that she isn't the greatest friend is when she goes to Hachi's house when Shoji's affair is discovered and after she wents to Jackson to talk to Kyosuke she defends Shoji and I don't remember if it is in a baloon or in words out of the baloon but she says something like "Why I'm even defending him??" I thinks is one of the most human moments in the manga.
As Andre 3000 said in Hey Ya "You don't wanna hear me, you just want to dance" anime fans don't really understand the content of the stories they are reading, they just superficially and aesthetically interact with what they're watching/reading, and Chainsawman is a prime exemple of this, none of the characters are made for gooning or waifuing, but people don't care. Reze is the best example of this, she is a broken mess (like Denji) she is a mirror of Denji, if he was found really early in his life by the government, he is faultly sincere, she is a bunch of mirrors and lies, he doesn't know anything of the world and wants to know more, she doesn't know much and don't want to know, she is made for us to see another side of Denji and watch what would become of Denji in another route. But NOPE people understand her as a Magic Pixie Dream Girl and just this, its dumb.
I liked that you mentioned Rei/Asuka/Misato because Evangelion was like one of the first times the author talked about being angry with this "Hey Ya Effect" and made End of Evangelion lmao.
