I used to use MAL, because I heard of it first and kept using it, because I liked how you can customize your list (even with code if you know how) and it was personazible. But then I moved to anilist because it's more convinient when updating your list and I would say it has better statistics and loads faster.
I would say it's the acting. Scenario, sound and and visuals play more in to the calm and realistic setting like lets say Kimi no na wa, but they still try to put those anime overacting tropes in it. Like his overly determined shout at the end. It is a great show and it's well made, but it has it's details.
