Wassup, just finished Banana Fish. I know I'm late as hell to this party, but I'ma still give my review cause....
First of all, great anime. I absolutely adore Ash. He is definitely one of my top 5 anime characters of all time.
Second of all, the ending made no fucking sense. So you're telling me; Ash, who somehow managed to survive A FUCKING MACHINE GUN shot from a HELICOPTER, SOMEHOW died by getting stabbed with with the shortest knife in the series by some bozo WHO WAS A SIDE CHARACTER? From the FRONT? While Ash had a GUN with him? Didn't Ash have this thing where he could hear even the slightest of sound from BEHIND him? How the fuck did he get stabbed from the front? IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND IN NYC. Can someone please make it make sense? Was he really that dick-whipped at the time?
Also, it pissed me off that Dino had that type of ending. I expected Ash to be the one to kill him.
I understand that like, authors feel the need to make main characters die to make their series deep, but this ending made no fucking sense. It also would of been much more meaningful if Ash did have a happy ending, proving that anybody can change their life around. You are not confined to what others think is your fate. It is possible to be raised in the streets but not die in them, it is possible to rise above your past. It should not make or confine you. That type of storyline would of much more impactful, seeing Ash adjust to a 'normal' life. How often do you see a storyline like that in anime?
I alsoheavilydisagree with Yoshida's explanation to why she ended it that way, which was: Ash was a bad person so karma eventually got to him. Um, excuse me? Did I read the same series she wrote? Where Ash was literally raped/molested, trafficked, the child of neglectful parents, and forced into gang life as a means of freedom starting from the age of 8? Does anybody seriously expect a person to come out normal after going through experiences like that? Ash also made it extremely clear he did not kill for fun, he did it as a means of survival... He was not some cold-blooded, ruthless killer of innocents....
Also, by that standard, why the FUCK did Blanca and Yut Lung survive? Blanca was 10x worse, fucking leaving retirement ready to kill the man that Ash, his friend, deeply cared for, somebody that he didn't even know. Don't even get me started on Yut Lung either.
Anyways, great anime, like I said. I'm very pissed off so right now it's a 7/10. Tomorrow it'll rise to an 8. Maybe.

Banned for playing League
@ZeroSoul you're into anime that focuses on plot rather than BS. I see lots of shounen and great animes. When you get into a series, you tend to watch everything that's involved with it.
@AceDetective
Uraraka is wife material. L, Mugen (imagining him in a harem is pretty funny), and Izaya are pretty cool, I'm mostly gonna be surrounded by girls I don't know tho.
