I know what you mean. I watched all of 2003 after watching (and loving!) Brotherhood. 2003 has its good points-- a few extra scenes here and there, and more relaxed pacing at the beginning which allows you to get into the story more (though it can feel a little weird, as you said). However, the main reason some people prefer 2003 is the ending. Some people say Brotherhood's ending is too happy considering how dark the main plot gets. I suppose I understand where they're coming from (though I'm personally a sucker for happy endings, including that one) but that being said I don't think 2003 has a better ending in any way. No spoilers, but it's just really weird in my opinion, not the gritty/somber masterpiece some seem to think it is.

For sure! But I feel like that's more because the general public prefers Brotherhood-- a lot of more serious anime fans I know prefer 2003. So I guess that in this case, I wouldn't say my opinion is unpopular in general but may well be among more "hard core" fans.

FMA (2003) isn't that great. The slower pacing at the beginning is nice but the rest is in no way superior to Brotherhood. Also, Brotherhood's ending isn't too "happy".

perfect blue is a masterpiece, imo. same goes for EoE but i can't argue with you that it makes you want to die... it's just that i personally see that as a good thing & testament to its narrative power lol
