Nice, compact profile with a good taste for the cute things.
Reminds me that I need to get around to watching Yuyushiki.
Ooh, this'll be fun.
I watched SoulTaker because I wanted to watch Komugi-chan, but ended up loving SoulTaker so much that I forgot I wanted to watch Komugi-chan in the first place.
You'll usually hear one (or both) of these two things when people tell you about SoulTaker: 1. sakuga, and 2. it is extremely hard to follow. They're right.
I went into SoulTaker knowing full well that it was gonna be hard to follow, so I focused all of my concentration into it. Not to say that I go limp watching other anime, but I made a mental note of every plot element and tried to keep it in mind with every event or revelation. This probably sounds scary, but it was actually pretty fun and reminded me of my first time watching Bakemonogatari, a show in which I similarly made mental notes of everything. I think Shinbou just has that effect on me...
Akio Watanabe's trademark art direction is incredible, taking a much darker appearance than most other shows he's associated with. There are still hints of Watanabe moe, like the mere existence of Komugi, but it doesn't take the show. If you can stay focused and immersed, SoulTaker is grim, quiet and artsy with a lot of messaging and emotion. Every piece serves a purpose.
