The first episode had me really excited for this anime honestly, but what is honestly going on? Why did they have to make the Gears playable characters by some weird cartoon-y species. It's just such an odd idea. I see what they're trying to do but like, this anime would of been so much better if the Gears where just a different race themselves. It just takes a lot away from the world the first episode established.
I'm gonna keep watching and keep an open mind, but I'm not hopeful.
Maybe they're trying to do something like 'The Matrix' but with a new twist? It definitely got way more interesting though. I think this layered setting will allow the series to explore various topics and themes that wouldn't have been possible with the type of story that was depicted in the first episode. Maybe with a setting like this one director Tachikawa is trying to explore things that he wasn't able to explore with 'Death Parade' which only had 12 episodes and was never continued. All in all, this feels like very interesting premise and I'm really looking forward to where they take this.
I didn't realize it's the same director from Death Parade. I did enjoy that anime so hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised by Deca-dence.
I guess the twist was so out there and came so early that it's really thrown me off. I'm not gonna completely write it off and call it shit since we're only two episodes in. I'll definitely keep an open mind and see how things progress :)
It's not The Matrix because The Matrix isn't real, it's a simulation. All of this is real life. It's just that some of the humans have a chip that has them be controlled by the aliens so that they can farm the oxyone, which they need to live. The whole story of the first episode is still there. There's just this other thing going on in the background too now.
Yes I understood that. I guess I worded it wrong but I was actually referring to the concept of living in a controlled reality instead of the actual setting of the movie. The reality in matrix is a controlled simulation whereas in this anime all the events take place in the real world. However, even if everything takes place in the real world it is still a controlled reality since the humans aren't aware of what's actually happening. Hence, "something like 'The Matrix' but with a new twist". Sorry for not making it clear.
