Fair enough, I'm wrong on that panel, but you said "moments" not one single instant
The moments include the other things that I'm arguing, not just the smile.
The next panel, he's grimacing lol, it's such a disingenuous criticism.
Thats not what being disingenuous means...I pointed out an example of a facial expression thats different, I never claimed that Mappa got the following parts wrong.
Irrelevant since you were acting like he didn't do that in the manga
He wasn't doing this in the manga. [link Megumis sending Reggie flying throughout his domain for seconds while Reggie is spinning and doing breakdancing moves on him. ] (https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/302191)
You have a very shallow understanding of the source material.
Not resorting to a simple option when it's available is stupid, and Megumi isn't stupid. So you were wrong on 2 counts.
You mean like Megumi hitting reggie like hes a pinata while the toads restricted his movements? He even randomly stops for seconds and then just stares at him. Yeah, this is totally the anime adapting the manga faithfully and not just the director adding more hype and aura moments with little substance.
Megumie choosing to ragdoll Reggie instead of restricting his movements and trying to bash his head and stomach in with his sword is a DUMBER thing to do.
Overall, if the only substantial thing that differed was not having a clone using a sword (Cause that one panel is whatever since hes right back to grimacing and your 2nd criticism has nothing to do with the anime+its a subjective pet peeve of yours)its pretty hyperbolic to act as if they came anywhere close to ruining his fight, especially when you zoom out and see all the things they added that elevated it.
I don't believe anything added by Mappa "elevated" this fight. I will continue to read the manga fight version again, I don't think I will revisit this fight in the anime. Most of JJKs fights are better in the manga, the only anime fights I rewatch are S2 E16 and E17.
Their comes a point when the few flaws something or someone has its dwarfed by the positives and focusing only on those small flaws is just looking to be miserable/negative rather than realistic.
Or I just don't like the series. Just like you apparently don't care about the small details, I do. Not everyone needs to mindlessly consume things or be shallow like you.
That cringe subreddit is on my feed now and the post i clicked on has people proving you wrong on a lot of points, interesting. Feels like you just make a big deal out of minor things + misunderstand the character, since you think he lacks physical strength+you said he never fights like this
Not a single person on the subreddit proved me wrong. In every single one of Megumis fights outside of his fight against Awasaka and Kiara, the series goes out of his way for Megumi to mention at least once how his opponent is physically overwhelming him. He doesn't ever fight like how he did in the clip I provided in the manga, if so point to a single moment where he does.
Hand to hand is something he excels that unlike the other shikigami users and he resorts to that against that 1 finger bearer
No, it's not. He literally kicks the finger bearer one time, and that's because he has no other option since it broke his sword earlier. He doesn't "excel" at hand to hand, hes capable of close combat unlike Shikigami users, but hes still far from being exceptional in any kind of a way. If so, name a fight where he showcases this "exceptional" skill.
To the first point you either lied or forgot. The facial expressions of the ep match the manga.
You're just objectively wrong here.
One overwhelming someone is a tactic
It's far more boring for Megumi to just punch and kick Reggie around like he's a DBZ character rather than utilize strategic positioning to overwhelm Reggie.
Megumi used it cause he is not physically outclassed, which is obvious when you realize he could handle far more weight than Reggie and for longer too, so using brute force is a valid strategy that doesn't contradict his character.
Megumi was struggling with holding up 2.4 tons, Reggie was struggling with 3-6 tons.
Also, outside of the domain at the end of the fight, despite Megumi having a sword, Reggie dodges all of his attacks and then lands multiple blows on Megumi. Megumi comments on his exceptional physical strength and cursed energy control.
So yes, both characters are relative but Reggie has the upper hand even while Megumi is boosted by his DE.
In this episode alone, there were specific facial expression during moments which exists to contrasts Megumis earlier mentality. For example, in the manga he's smiling and taunting Reggie when he's asking him who's going to be crushed first. This is something that he would have never done in the first half of the series, and its one of the only moments where we can see Megumis crazy side. In the anime, he's just giving a generic angry/struggling face, changing the atmosphere for the scene.
Another is the scene where the clones are attacking Reggie and punching him around. This is something completely antithetical to Megumis fighting style. In the manga, in almost every fight with Megumi, Megumi highlights his opponents or teammates physical superiority to him...hes a character who wins his fights through strategy and skill. He barely fights barehanded as well, he's usually using cursed tools.
For some reason in the anime they just took out his sword for this entire episode despite him using it during the entire fight in the manga. In the manga, his maneuvers are carefully planned. He forces Reggie to block constantly by having one of his clones attack with the sword while having his other clones attack Reggie from his blind spots while he's blocking. In the anime the clones are just running around and punching Reggie. Theres no technicality or strategy involved, he's just overpowering him. They cover for this with flashy animation, but its far more shallow. He's sending Reggie flying and spinning throughout the air which is something that he never does throughout the entire manga.
I don't even mind when series take liberties but usually for JJK it just makes the series feel way more shallow and empty usually.
Really like the parallels between the Tigers situation and Yuji/Sukuna. Didn’t think that Tsurugi was going to actually kill the tiger, but he made up for it by the end..
Also it’s interesting that the aliens aren’t aware of cursed spirits. I wonder how Geto would react to coming across a different race that lived in a society without cursed spirits
