As a Manhwa reader I love the show. I feel it still gives me the warm feeling, but I do agree it feels like there isn't the tension to keep the series moving forward.
In the Manhwa while there was a lot of cute scenes there was also this overhanging tension of trying to escape fate. I feel as though the donghua doesn't portray this feeling very much instead choosing to go for an almost iyashikei feel.

Shout out to the Fate reference during the Demon King vs hero.

They basically managed to make something so dumbed down that non of the fans cared to watch it. While doing this they also made it so unappealing that new people don't even want to start watching it. Most of the art designs feels like that of a cheap hentai from 10 years ago. The pacing was especially bad. They basically dick around for half the series and then decide they need to have a plot.
It sucks because the main character seems like they could be so interesting if they just gave two shits. I wanted to know more about this event, but they don't even really cover the event at all. I stuck with this show simply because I am a fan of the games. I hopped so much that in the last two or three episodes that something or anything of worth would pop up, but it didn't.

Just go play the games. If the Sky and Crossbell games feel too dated for you go play Trails of Cold Steel 1. If that feels dated go play Trails of Cold Steel 3. Ideally you wouldn't do that, but anything to get a person into the series works for me.

My man still has the best parent figures in all of anime.
