Chimera arc is unbearable, at least compared to the Hunter exam and York Shin arcs. Lots of annoying characters that the anime made even more insufferable, painfully slow pathed and a narrator that explain the obvious like if the spectator had no functional braincells left.
After it ended I lost the will to keep watching HxH 2011 and dropped it, specially after having watched 1999 which is infinitely superior in every aspect (imo). I'm going to start reading the manga now :]
I don't know, I'd say it was okish, I guess you get used to MAPPA's CGI abuse after 8 episodes. I'm gonna start reading the manga for sure once first season is over.
The only episode that managed to disappoint me so far was the first one. The CGI shitfest almost made me drop it entirely, thankfully I always watch 2 episodes before dropping, yay.
Just focusing purely in visuals/enjoyment (I haven't read the manga so I can't talk about how is the story adapted) I'd say that MAPPA's art and visuals are nice, beautiful and well curated but when it comes to just the animation I think it's mediocre, unless, of course, you are really into 3DCG graphics which I'm not. They rely so much in CGI for complex situations.
Episode 1 was awful to watch, a lot of lazy CGI, blood looked like marmalade, it felt like a video game instead of an anime...
In comparison to the first, the rest of episodes were much, much better, CGI was present but I couldn't be bothered since it was pretty much unnoticeable. Pretty good I'd say.
As someone who prefers classic and simplistic animation over "modern 3D and CGI", I hope they keep things as balanced as the latest episodes.
Wow, I watched this second episode with no expectations at all, thinking about dropping it due to how awful the first one was. To my surprise, almost no CGI, very enjoyable from the beginning to the end and pretty well executed in general... Bravo, can't believe CRAPPA did something decent for once.
