Completed it and Ep 1- 4 were a bit of a drag to say the least but 5-8 things get better. The story picks up and the characters get some fleshing out although I still feel they come across as a little flat tbh. Still not loving the art style. Weird harsh lines and random changing coloured highlights. Animation is decent apart from a few moments where the cgi kinda pulls you out of the story. The soundtrack is very much in keeping with the Terminator franchise giving that cold, metallic, desolate, desperate vibe we know and love…in fact I really like the soundtrack. I also really liked how they approached time travel which kinda makes sense of what was a mess where Terminator is concerned. Also a couple of good twists later on which I didn’t see coming. If I were to score it I’d give it a 7/10 as I am interested enough to want to see how the story progresses but I was not wowed. My husband is sticking with 7.5/10 :)
My husband is enjoying it and he is not really into animation but is a fan of the Terminator franchise. I’ve just watched ep 5 and the story is picking up a bit so jury is still out. I’ve been reading reviews and surprised by how positive they are….maybe I’m missing something or it gets a lot better here on out. At the moment I’m scoring it a 6 and my husband is saying 7.5.
Agreed Akira, Ninja Scroll and GITS were my introduction to anime along with several others. The thing is back then in the early/mid 90’s you did not have the vast choice thats on tap that there is now and the animated world has come a long way. The majority of what I could lay my hands on then was limited and pretty much action, dystopian or a Ghibli movie. I loved them all but, with what’s available now, I’m not sure these would be where I would have started. I do think every fan should watch them at least once though.
