Despite Asano having little more to do with this thing than Character design I can't help but notice some similarities between this show and his works. Like the contrast between existentialism and deep interpersonal drama and how those can both occupy the same space and be equally as important. The two mains are basically ennui and drama personified and I like their chemistry. The Sensei character was a little nicer and more interesting than I expected. Hehe his banter with Nishinosono was I'd say pretty well-written and actually adorable in a way.
Colors are a lot less saturated here as I expected from the trailers. Works well with the material but I get the feeling things might change visually as we go. We'll see. Also the whole "let's go to a weird island occupied by a genius scientist and find a dead body!" kinda thing screamed Scooby Doo to me I dunno it was a little funny. Still, this is the only Noitamina thing this year I haven't immediately dropped so that's a definite plus
