off the top of my head:
Mind Game
An option to weight each category in advanced scores would be great. This has been proposed multiple times in the past.

Weighted options for advanced scoring system doesn't seem to be part of the list.

Thanks!
I think the cause is pretty clear. There's this extra advanced scoring category, which I used before but now I have no option to remove. This non-removable category is only visible under Settings > Lists with the default name "Name".
Usually there's a cross mark button for each category/row, but none for "Name" so I can't seem to remove it. This broken category shows up in the rating prompt only when given a name and that's also the only time the cross mark button appears. Clicking remove doesn't remove the category though, instead given name for that category reverts to default and the field just stays there.
However it's definitely there, part of the rating system. Since the overall score is derived from 6 values instead of 5.
I also tried naming the broken category something in order to turn it back on, then deleting the category score by setting it to 0. Of course none of that works and instead I get "The score must be a number" error prompt. Other times the score won't even change when I try to save the changes.
So that pretty much confirms your suspicion; the extra category is messing everything up.
Ye I did add 1 new advanced score category as well but only ~5 out of 90+ anime received a score in this category yet this issue seems to be universal. Your explanation does make sense since I removed the new category but nothing has changed so something has been left behind.
My GDPR data:
"advanced_scores":{"active":true,"names":["Story","Characters","Visuals","Audio","Enjoyment"]}
EDIT: What comes next is: {"status_distribution":{"anime":[],"manga":[]},
I'm not sure if there are more relevant fields you need but this seems to be the same line of code you shared in your post.
So again, will this EVER be fixed? I just encountered the exact same problem; changing the default category names will eventually break advanced scoring. Same issue in Firefox, Vivaldi and Chrome.
EDIT: Ok so now the advanced rating won't average out into the right overall score. How does 10 in everything equal to 8.6?
The overall score seems to turn out different depending on anime despite giving each category the exact same score e.q. 10 in everything for Oregairu S1 will yield 8.4. Or 8 in everything equals 9 or 8.7 depending on anime.
Deleting the anime from my list and re-adding it with the same score does seem to fix it.
The default category names has been restored to default so I can't fathom what caused this issue.
