@attvfsg
Most of your ratings are in a similar ballpark to mine or I feel like I can understand them, about the only one maybe I could pick at would be Spy x Family being "only" a 7
It took me a solid second to realize that was Tonomachi, what the heck did they do to him
Actually, you know what I hate more than Geek Toys terrible CGI? Their terrible constantly neutral facial expressions
She is literally dying again and all Shido can do is look mildly surprised. All anyone does in this series is display mild emotion. Wish I had a billion dollars and Japanese business connections so I could revive AIC or at least Production IMS to take over and redo this whole thing again
Oh we're rolling now, the LN guys weren't lying.
This show is definitely getting carried on it's writing, the animation continues to sink my heart with goofy shots like this one. Shido has zero facial expression here too and his stance conveys almost nothing. In general, they never animate the face on the CG characters.
How could they think any of these CG shots were acceptable is beyond me. I've been going back and rewatching season 1 a little bit and it's so sad to see how far the production for this series has fallen.
The amount of 3D CG in this episode is just killing me. It starts off with the worst and it does get a bit better, but there are so many shots where every single clone is in the exact same pose or where every single 3D model has no expression on their face. Forget even trying to replace 2D, it's not even good 3D animation. Absolute bare minimum effort from everyone but the modeling team who at least did show up to work
@oEgu Maybe Non Non Biyori?
EDIT: Oh if you like Iyashikei and Romance Teasing Master Takagisan
Alright so I really love this manga and I was decently excited for the anime until the first art showed up and we got this. I'm giving this a shot and I'll probably watch the whole thing but boy do I have an axe to grind so here's a rant.
In the opening sequence and others, a lot of the in-betweens are so clearly computed generated, it moves like how the morph transition does in Premiere and has all of the movement pacing problems you get when you try to interpolate 2D animation naively. The camera motion just feels like they're trying to show off, it feels out of place for a slow burn romance, and it sets the dramatic expectations far higher than they should be.
The CG and 2D characters don't blend well but that might just be par for the course for anime, it's just worse here because of them trying to go too hard on the camera. One particular example of the poor compositing is the top down shot at 11:50, watch as how the camera pans in, Mie's shadow expands and slides around, even though she doesn't move at all. The perspective projection of the 2D layer stays the same despite the projection changing in the 3D layer as the camera pans in, which is to be expected in a TV anime, but the whole thing then just looks like a cardboard cut out flying around to cast a changing shadow. it's not a good looking shot. The shot at 12:30 does correctly do shadows/reflections but the perspectives still don't align through the whole shot.
One complaint I'll throw in as well is how much time it dwells on certain moments until they become "cringe". Takagi, Nagatoro, and others did this too so I think it might just be standard, but these moments become really awkward if they overstay their laughs.
I think the big problem that was kinda seen from the initial art is the style and character design, specifically for Mie. I think Komura and the others look fine, but Mie has far too messy hair with too much detail and overreaction to her every movment, and her eyes almost look animal-like given how wide her pupils are and the color, it's a little unsettling.
Look at how soft her features are in the official watercolor art (Fujichika-sensei is a really good painter too). Notice the softer brown of her eyes and her hair holding a shape. (also just now noticing her hair isn't curly anymore)
and then look at how busy the anime's design is and how unnaturally her hair separates when she moves
or how strange her pupils look
GoHands was so clearly the wrong choice for this, look at how empty and uninteresting their portfolio is. https://anilist.co/studio/309/GoHands I'll never understand how they got the rights for this.
Now to add some nice stuff, the voice work is good, as expected of the well-trained JP VAs. There's decent quality control in how it looks, most things are coherent. The writing tends to be a pretty good arrangement of the source material too.
Look at Amane's neck, pretty sure this is an error. Both art and animation are noticeably and consistently subpar, with characters often not on model and a lot of movement being really awkward and linear like a student project. Really liked the LNs so I am a bit disappointed here.
Oh another complaint, the entire sequence of shots for when Mahiru almost gets splashed with soup is a huge mess, they're all so close up, it provides no information about the space they're in. It's not clear at all what direction Mahiru almost got splashed from, where Amane came from, or where she was moved by him, at least in the split second you have to see it.
I think this one follows the light novel a bit closer than episode 1 so that's good. The quality of the animation is seems less than average though, they don't move much and the larger movements look somewhat strange. The range of facial expressions seem a bit low too.
The one detail I could remember it sort of missing is that Mahiru is surprised when Amane sits next to her, that shows something about their standard for physical distance. I'm not really upset about missing such a small detail, but it could have been a moment for a more surprised expression from Mahiru.
We finally see a bit more of Itsuki and Amane's banter, less cut down than episode 1 which is nice. Itsuki is more fleshed out than just the token friend, I'm hoping we see more of him than this.
