Little late, but I refuse to miss a chance to defend Oreimo.
Oreimo is without a doubt an amazing show, anyone who tells you otherwise either: hasn't watched it or only hates it for the incest stuff that comes up at the end. Oreimo was perfectly fine and had an amazing story the whole way through, it isn't even too far off of a basic ass isekai where the MC's sister just happened to be the cataclysm for the events of the story. It was only the last few episodes where things went from a show that happened to have normal siblings who were learning how to get along with each other (which could have been a really cool lesson to come out of the show with, had they not made it incestual, since that isn't really done too often) to: "oh shit this is without a doubt just incest". Obviously the end kind of leaves a bad taste in the mouth, and makes the show a very easy punching bag, but as a whole, it's a pretty solid show that gets a lot of unjustified hate. To be clear: the ending is icky and I hate that it ruins what could have been one of the better isekai out there, but I can't change the incest parts (unless you go the route of the OVA) so they're just kind of there, and something that, while not at all what I would have wanted, is still attached to a pretty damn good show.
The contract for the show was probably specifically asking for 12 episodes, as all shows are locked into their contracts episode count until they're renewed. When they ran into issues animating the last bit of the show they had to push everything back, hence the recap episode, but this meant that they used all 12 of their slots that their contracts allowed them before being able to air the last episode. It's also going to be super delayed compared to the other episodes that had to release week by week most likely because of their contracts telling them that they have to release an episode each week and not drop the last episode three months after the twelfth.
TLDR: It has to be done as a special for business reasons concerning their contracts that most likely follows the same rules that nearly every show ever created has had to follow.
I like anime more because it feels more like a complete package with voice acting, music, colors, and (get this) animation. Unfortunately, it loses out to manga when it comes to the sheer quality of the panels, but I'd rather not have that one benefit in place of an overall more enjoyable experience to me.
I think there are times for one or the other, but I just prefer anime most of the time to manga when the two are of equal or close to equal quality.
No, but sometimes it's nice to just enjoy a little story with no particular meaning. It's entertainment and I found their relationship and the beautiful imagery and animation to be enjoyable. It doesn't need to have some moral at the end or anything, it was just nice to get a peak into a little story of their lives.
We have a single thirteenth episode announced to conclude the show this summer:
Wonder Egg Priority Tokubetsuhen
We weren't supposed to have that recap on episode eight, but instead everything got pushed back making this unreleased episode the intended season finale, but the show ran into some issues due to its high standard of animation quality the studio has and had to end an episode early.
It isn't a sequel, it's just the last episode coming to us much later down the line.
I had a similar problem last season, in fact I literally just got caught up because I heard S5 was coming up and I still hadn't finished S4. I actually really loved S3, and it made My Hero into one of my favorite shows, which I still stand by, so I thought it was odd that I didn't care too mich about the nes season coming out in a few months. I did some thinking on it a bit ago, and I think I just got caught up with other things inbetween seasons. Once I started S4 I fell right back into things again and remembered why I loved the city so much. I think you just need a couple episodes to get re-acquitted with the series, I'm sure that once you get back into it you'll be enjoying things again.
I like Yuki and Toru a lot, so this was the part of the show I was most looking forwards to for a while, and it ended the way I preferred, so I was happy with it all. Now I'm just interested in seeing how Miyamura talks with his old bully, and watching some more dumb fun and I'll be pretty happy with the show.
I enjoy stories about people trying to come to terms with their emotions and muster up the courage to ask the other person out over the course of a whole ass year, but not every love story has to follow that pattern. Their relationship developed a little quick, sure I can agree with that, but I'm kind of enjoying seeing Hori and Miyamura develop further than most shows wind up going. I don't think the show is as much as them getting together and then rolling credits, as it is a more realistic representation of how things go before, during, and after the whole confession thing. The problems going forward from here are the kinds that shows like this usually never get to because they spend so long lingering on the "will they won't they" so much that they never get to move past that, or don't without it just being a continuation for the sake of continuing a successful series.
This is, in my opinion, the best romance anything, anime or other, of all time and is definitely a must-watch for everyone. Definitely watch this one:
Toradora
Horimiya is airing rn, and it's pretty solid:
Horimiya
If you're looking for something more on the comedy side of things:
Kaguyasama Love is War
Lastly, if you're interested in waifu wars:
RentaGirlfriend
I assume it isn't for everyone, and that's fine. It's objectively a very flawed show, like very very flawed considering how highly it's held up, but I don't mind that it's flawed because it really pushed me to a point I've never been before in media with it's characters and its themes. It's far from perfect if you look at it from a purely critical standpoint, in fact it's pretty terrible from a critical standpoint, but it personally hits you in a very unique showing of emotional brutality, that captures me and a bunch of other people. Maybe it just missed you when it started swinging. It sucks that you didn't like it though, I thought it was pretty incredible.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
and by extension
Neon Genesis Evangelion The End of Evangelion
Even when I think back on it nearly a year later: I'm left with so many emotions that all contradict each other equally, and it just fries my brain
I was in an anime recession from spring of 2016 through Winter of 2018, so I missed a lot of stuff, but this was definitely the worst one to miss.
ReZERO Starting Life in Another World
Easily one of my favorite shows now. I hate that I wrote it off as a dumb Isekai or boring shounen until my friend told me that it wasn't.
