I mean again, just look at Edgerunners. It also had a bunch of characters yet it still worked really well despite it only being 10 episodes, you even gave it a 10. Judging by the cover art it seems like these 5 characters are gonna be the main characters throughout the entire story and I doubt they'll introduce many more in the following episodes.
I really don't think this is that grand of a story tbh and it's fine. It might be a grand premise but really it just boils down to "find the cure to the drug that will kill everyone". If there's good action and some character development along the way I think it has potential to be a great action focused anime similar to edgerunners.
I thought it was amazing, I have no clue why people are complaining tbh. Watanabe's stories were never that deep and instead relied on a fun cast of characters and good world building to work which I think Lazarus managed to show off pretty well in this episode. The animation was absolutely incredible and you could tell that Chad Stahelski (director of John Wick) worked on the action. This seems like it's gonna be an Edgerunners situation to me, where the action and characters are the main focus with a simple premise as the backdrop to keep the plot going and I'm honestly all for it.
Really unsure on how to feel about this. On one hand it looks really unique and the animation looks great, but on the other hand it's just nothing like All You Need Is Kill? I understand that the manga isn't the source material but both it and the Edge of Tomorrow still shared a very similar atmosphere and tone and tried to follow the LN as close as possible while only adjusting minor aspects to make it work for their respective mediums. Not only does this adaptation change the protagonist for whatever reason, it also feels like I'm watching some Space Dandy episode and the art style just does not match the story whatsoever imo. I'd gladly be positively surprised once it does come out but this seems less like an adaptation and more of a re-imagining.
I wouldn't even call it a guilty pleasure, it's just a really fun show. Obviously the plot and the insane amounts of ecchi scenes are stupid, but it's stupid in a fun way and I genuinely like it because of it. It never really takes itself too seriously, but when it does, I think it manages to pull it off pretty well. The animation is good, the music is great and the cast is cool too. That said, it's also one of the few anime where I prefer the dub because the voice actors sound like they actually had fun recording their lines. Also I like zombies and there are pretty much no traditional zombie anime besides this one.
Actually wrote a review about it too in case you want to read it: link
@Ampri why is Redline so low :/
10 is perfection, meaning genuinely zero flaws. 5 is mediocre / average, not good or bad and 0 / 1 means literally zero redeeming qualities, hated every second of it. Obviously all subjective and based on my own enjoyment of the show. If you're going to use a 10 point scoring system though, use all of it otherwise what's the point.
In just this episode alone there were dozens of exchanges and dialogues that lead nowhere and could have easily been cut out. The way people talk is also just extremely annoying and unnatural, save a few and a lot of characters have like one personality and attitude that they stick to no matter the circumstances, Subaru included. Sure he technically went through a lot of character development but the vast majority of the time he acts exactly the same as before, (wow instead of straight up attacking Julius for basically no reason he only threatened to do so, incredible development) Emilia is pretty much the only exception. Idk maybe I was just younger when I watched S1 so these things didn't really stand out to me, but the dialogues are just not well written, which is a pretty big deal when the first episode is 1.5 hours long and is almost exclusively dialogue. I think this show works a lot better when it's not focusing on surface level political conflicts with dozens of characters involved that never had any development and instead focus on a select few like S1 did.
